Atlamont Concert 1969
The Altamont Concert 1969
Everyone has heard about Woodstock, but surprisingly few people have heard about the Rolling Stones free concert tht closed out the 60’s as a “bad trip.” The Stones presented an all-star lineup of the biggest names in Rock Music. But, the ‘love, joy, peace’ of Woodstock wasn’t to be repeated at Altamont. The concert is presented in the documentary film, “Gimme Shelter.”
I attended the Altamont Concert 1969, but left as the ‘vibe’ started feeling a bit uncomfortable. Here are some photos I shot that day (not the best quality, but it was my first time with my dad’s camera!).

Spent the night freezing on a hillside 500 feet from the stage. Woke up to find some guy somehow got his leg crushed sleeping under a tractor in the field? Saw the fight between Hell’s Angels and guys trying to rush the stage. Jagger screamed for the crowd to calm down which worked somewhat. Altamont was a DISASTER!
We arrived later in the day, Cars were blocking Hwy 5 so we turned onto the grass, parked, and walked right up to the stage! Big mistake! I saw the guy with the gun, saw the Hell’s “Angels” knifing someone, jumping on us, Keith threatening to walk off stage, Mick trying to be peace maker! Not gonna happen this night! One of the 3 times I flipped out on Acid. Bad Acid.
